August 1924: All who are desirous of joining the S.S.S. Football Club should get in touch with the Hon. Secretaries (Messrs A. Royle, Primary ‘B’, and H. Brooks, 1st Class) … Mr T. B. Leigh has accepted the presidency of the club, and among the vice-presidents we have the support of Messrs R. Hopwood, L. B. Hadfield, P. B. Wolfe, W. E. Carrington, J. Froggatt and Mr W. B. Leigh.

April 1925: Lancashire Hill School: On Shrove Tuesday, Feb. 24, the Hockey Club held their Annual Fancy Dress Social, in aid of the club funds. There were present about 100 members and their friends … It was obvious that the judges (Mr and Mrs Froggatt and Mr and Mrs Broome) would have no easy task, and it was only after long and careful deliberation that the prize winners were chosen. They were: Ladies, 1st Miss H. Morton (danger signals), 2nd Mrs W. H. Johnson (Early Victorian lady); gentlemen, 1st Mr S. Walker (Chinaman), 2nd Mr E. Shepherd (the village curate). Consolation prizes were awarded to Miss M. Johnson, Miss J. Seymour and Miss I. Arnold. The judges, to whom a vote of thanks was passed, felt that all the costumes were so charming, that to single out anyone for special notice was almost invidious. They venture to hope that this standard will always be maintained, if possible improved, and that next year even more members will compete. A happy evening ended with the singing of “Auld Lang Syne”.’

Lancashire Hill School: The Annual L.H.S.S. Fellowship Social took place on Wednesday, Feb 25. Two hundred members attended … Madame Annie Hargreaves, Mr Arthur Dean, Mr W. H. Hancock and Mr Froggatt sang, and Miss Harrison recited three amusing sketches. Perhaps the most delightful, because the most unexpected, item on the programme was the recitation by Mrs James Morton and Mrs Joseph Stokes – both ‘dressed up’ for their part – of Edwin Waugh’s little poem ‘The dule’s i’ this bonnet o’ mine’ In response to encore, Mrs Stokes spoke Samuel Laycock’s ‘Welcome Bonny Brid’.
