30 April 1991: Letter from Irene & Alf [Pain], 39 High Trees, New England Road, Haywards Heath, West Sussex, RH16 3PL, to Pam[ela Ward]: ’30/4/91   My dear Pam   I was so sorry to hear that Geoff Durrant had passed away, although expected, it is still a shock when it happens. Margret tells me you were able to be with him the evening prior to his passing. Knowing how concerned you were that you might not see him in time, I was glad that you had that time with him  –  and I’m sure he was too. Dear Pam, you were so kind when my Mum went, you know I am now thinking of you and knowing your thought for others, I’m sure Margaret Durrant will be a grateful recipient of your very special brand of compassion and support. As we both know, Geoff is in a lovely place now and out of pain  –  it’s the ones left behind who need the back-up. I shall always retain pleasant memories of Geoff Durrant who was truly one of nature’s gentlemen. You must have some very special memories to sustain you through this sad time. It goes without saying that i there is anything either myself or Alf can do – please don’t hesitate to let us know. God bless Pam    much love from Irene & Alf x x    PS. Thank you for my birthday card’
